Just 27 km from Galway, the gorgeous town of Oughterard promises a wonderful Culture Night celebration with something for everyone – music, dance, film projection, visual arts, talks, poetry and demonstrations. The week leading up to Culture Night will see the town become a canvas for an Art Trail, with over 40 artists displaying visual art, sculpture, ceramics, patchwork, felting and more in unexpected places. The City Library features a world of literary and arts celebration on Culture Night, headlined by a very special event curated by City and County Librarian Pat McMahon. Reflecting on the exemplary life of poet and doctor William Carlos Williams " A River of Words" is an entertainment for all ages contemplating through words and images a great writer and a great man. Popular Galway wordsmith, the mellifluous Susan Millar Du Mars, narrates the story. Following this there will be a performance by the amazing Niceol Blue a locally based singer songwriter with great reputation. Admission free

The Arts Office of University College Hospital presents a concert of gorgeous Galway sounds for patients, visitors and staff. Performing in the main foyer of the hospital will be Big Sing a multi-cultural community choir that celebrates the human voice at its most enjoyable. Also performing will be Dusty Banjos a traditional music group formed as a music session for students of Irish traditional music. Its membership includes Irish people taking up (or returning to) Irish music, those learning a second instrument, non-Irish musicians wanting to learn Irish music, visitors and students who want to learn a few tunes as part of a cultural exchange, and many more. To expose the flawed nature of mankind, six crows adopt a human condition and go on an adventure through time. Interactive demonstration of printing techniques and styles with the master printers of Lorg Fine Art Printmakers, Connaught's leading exponents if all forms of the art of print. A series of artist talks and print demonstrations of various different techniques will take place with highlights including Edith Pieperhoff, Artist and Lorg Member, who will give a talk about her recent exhibition in the Galway Museum, featuring printmaking, multi media and video.
Catherine Kelly and Gill Christy, visual artists and Lorg members will also screen their Lorg Short Film Project, which they recently made with a group of children from Foroige Ballybane Youth Development Project, funded by the Western Region Drug Task Force. Admission free 6.00 - 9.00pm

Beloved Galway theatre company Druid invites one and all to an evening of guided tours of Druid's own theatre in Druid Lane. Crucible of nearly thirty years of great Galway theatre Druid's own space has been rebuilt to a funky new design by architect Tom de Paor and reopened to great acclaim in July 2009. This evening you can see backstage and behind the scenes at the Druid theatre as it prepares for the night's show ‘The Walworth Farce’ by Enda Walsh.
